MOUNTAIN BIKING: Rock Springs Reserve

← FL OCKLAWAHA RIVER EUREKA FL Single Tracks →

Description

Technical single track and double track jeep roads meander through flat pine woods and palmetto prairies interspersed with cypress bogs. Limited hunting. Call first to find out hunting season status (407-884-2006). This wild and beautiful area is good for biking during the dry months. The Freewheelers scouted and cut a 12 mile loop trail and hope to add more trail in the future. Look for the round blue blazes which mark the trail. The scenic Rock Springs Run is on the southern boundary with Wekiva springs State park and is a good place to stop for a swim. This is an area of both open palmetto thickets and woods. Some sections of the bike trail is on existing roads which are shared with vehicles, equestrians and hikers while other sections are bicycle-only singletrack.

Directions

Take I-4 to the SR 46 exit at Sanford. Turn left pass the Wekiva River. The entrance to Rock Springs will be on the left just past the bear underpass fencing. The bike trail head is about a quarter mile past the pay station ($2.00 entry fee) on the left.
